This 10-hour module is tailored for smallholder farmers, agripreneurs, extension officers, and vocational trainees who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills in building sustainable and inclusive food value chains within the context of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA). It provides both theoretical insights and practical approaches to strengthening efficiency, resilience, and inclusivity across agricultural value chains. The training opens with an introduction to the principles of sustainable and inclusive value chains, emphasizing their importance in improving food security, enhancing farmer incomes, and supporting climate resilience. Participants will examine how CSA practices can be integrated at every stage of the value chain from production and storage to processing, distribution, and marketing while maintaining a strong focus on environmental stewardship and social equity.
The module also highlights opportunities for reducing post-harvest losses, adopting climate-resilient technologies, and utilizing digital innovations to improve resource use and expand market access. A strong emphasis is placed on inclusivity, equipping participants with strategies to ensure that women, youth, and smallholder farmers are actively engaged and benefit from value chain development. Case studies and participatory exercises will allow learners to translate these strategies into practice. Through interactive discussions, role plays, and practical exercises, participants will gain hands-on experience in applying value chain management strategies that promote resilience and equity. By the end of the training, they will be well prepared to drive sustainable, efficient, and inclusive food value chains that contribute to stronger rural economies, enhanced food security, and climate-resilient agricultural systems.
